A US source involved in negotiations with Iran said on Monday that US President Donald Trump wants to reach a “permanent solution” with Tehran, on full terms.
The source added, in statements carried by Saudi media, that the American side is monitoring the growing anger inside Iran due to the economic situation, noting that Trump is betting on internal pressures in Iran to impose his full conditions during the negotiations.
Iran presented a peace proposal last week during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and said it had been conveyed to the American side through Qatari mediators, but Trump announced on Saturday his rejection of the proposal.
But the US president predicted in a telephone interview with Axios on Sunday that US negotiators would hold further talks this week.
