Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi explained the penalty for Iraqi media outlets broadcasting the speech of the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity, Benjamin Netanyahu, at the United Nations General Assembly.
Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalomah, “Netanyahu’s speech cannot be broadcast in its entirety and live as a propaganda platform on Iraqi channels. It can only be covered as a news item and political event. This is the precise distinction defined by Iraqi law.
” He added, “There are two laws regarding Netanyahu’s speech and whether or not it can be broadcast. This matter is governed by Law No. (1) of 2022, which criminalizes normalization and establishing relations with the Zionist entity. Article 2 prohibits establishing any diplomatic, political, cultural, or media relations with the entity. Article 4 punishes with life imprisonment anyone who contacts the entity’s institutions. Furthermore, the more serious Articles 6 and 7 stipulate the death penalty or life imprisonment for anyone who establishes relations with the entity, and anyone who normalizes relations or promotes its Zionist ideas or principles by any means, whether public or secret, including conferences, gatherings, publications, and social media.”
He clarified that “the law applies to Iraqi media outlets operating inside and outside Iraq and includes media dealings with any Zionist entity. Additionally, Penal Code No. 111 of 2022…” Article 201 of the 1969 law stipulated the death penalty for anyone who endorsed or promoted Zionist principles, including Freemasonry, or provided material or moral support to them.
