Delegations from dozens of countries left the United Nations General Assembly hall on Thursday, coinciding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu taking the podium to deliver his speech, which angered him and prompted him to call them “cowards”.
Some countries sent only one representative or junior diplomat, while others did not attend the speech at all.
This came in protest against the continued Israeli offensive on Gaza, its policies in the West Bank, and its attacks on Lebanon and Syria.
According to the list circulating, the countries whose delegations left the hall during Netanyahu’s speech included: Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Palestine, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Algeria, Bahrain, and Morocco.
Delegations from Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Ireland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Angola, Senegal, Somalia, Djibouti, Libya, Mauritania, Niger, Chad, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Congo also departed.
