The Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission and the State Financial and Administrative Control Authority of the Sultanate of Oman signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday regarding bilateral cooperation in promoting integrity and combating corruption.
The signing ceremony took place in the Qatari capital, Doha, on the sidelines of the sixth session of the States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption. The Iraqi side was represented by (Mohammed Ali Al-Lami), head of the Federal Integrity Commission, while the Omani side was represented by (Ghosn bin Hilal Al-Alawi), head of the Sultanate’s Financial and Administrative Control Authority.
The signing of the memorandum comes as a result of the two parties’ awareness of the seriousness of the problems and threats that corruption causes to the security and stability of societies and the undermining of institutions, democratic systems and the values of justice, and their desire to develop and coordinate efforts to prevent corruption and protect against its effects, in confirmation of the development of bilateral cooperation relations and the establishment of Arab cooperation efforts in accordance with the national legislation in force in both countries.
The memorandum seeks to activate cooperation between the two parties across several areas, including the exchange of experiences and information on anti-corruption strategies and policies, sharing visions and studies related to comprehensive measures taken to prevent corruption, as well as exchanging experiences in mechanisms for dealing with reports and complaints and identifying the necessary means for this.
The memorandum also stipulated following up on requests for legal assistance and international recovery files with national authorities in both countries until they are decided, in addition to exchanging experiences in the field of corruption prevention, especially financial disclosure systems, avoiding conflicts of interest, and consolidating the foundations of integrity and transparency.
They emphasized the importance of facilitating ways to exchange visits, training courses and workshops, and to exchange scientific research and studies and facilitate their publication in academic journals and periodicals in order to enhance the common goals between the two countries.
