Some biased political parties that support the presence of the occupier continue to issue statements and warnings about the destabilization of security and stability after the American military withdrawal from Iraq. This comes at a time when many political parties and competent authorities confirm that the security forces, in all their branches, have been handling the security file before and after the foreign military presence on Iraqi soil. This indicates that there is no need for the presence of any foreign forces inside Iraq, especially since the sons of the Popular Mobilization Forces, the army, and the police are undertaking the tasks of maintaining security and stability and confronting any security and terrorist challenges after they were able to achieve victory over ISIS and its supporters inside and outside the country and the countries that bet on its continued presence in Iraq.
MP Mukhtar al-Moussawi told Al-Maalouma that “the absence of any foreign presence in Iraq will have a positive impact on the security situation, because all experiences have proven that this presence has negative effects and interventions that do not serve the interests of security and stability.”
He added that “the withdrawal of US forces at the end of September is an important step, and it came as a result of the decisions of the House of Representatives and with popular support,” noting that “the withdrawal of those forces will not negatively affect the security situation and will not have any repercussions.”
He explained that “Iraqi security forces have been leading the fight against terrorism for many years, through intelligence efforts and field strikes, and therefore attempts by some to question their capabilities and confuse matters are inaccurate messages.”
He pointed out that “Iraqi security forces are capable of controlling the security situation and combating terrorism, and Iraq has reached a very important security stage by relying on its capabilities in confronting the remnants of terrorist organizations and organized crime.”
For his part, Jawad Al-Saadi, a member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, told Al-Maalouma that “developing air defense systems is of great importance at the present time, especially since the nature of modern battles requires the possession of advanced tools and technologies that are appropriate to the continuous development on the battlefields, especially in the field of weapons and military technology.”
He added that “the Iraqi army needs to modernize its technological and armament capabilities to be able to confront modern threats, foremost among them drones and missiles of all kinds, as reliance on traditional weapons and means is no longer sufficient in the face of the rapidly evolving nature of threats.”
He added that “all steps related to developing, arming, and improving the defense capabilities of the army and security forces have been placed among the government’s top priorities,” stressing that “these files were presented to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the security leaders, in light of the escalating challenges in the region and their potential repercussions on security and stability in Iraq.”
In a related context, MP Abbas Al-Maliki explained to Al-Maalouma that “Iraq will not allow any foreign soldiers or forces to remain on its territory after September 30, as the current stage requires completing the process of ending the foreign military presence entirely and extending full sovereignty over the entire national territory.”
He added that “the security forces, in all their formations and branches, are capable of holding the ground, securing the country’s borders, and preserving its security and stability without the need for any external military umbrella,” noting that “Parliament is closely monitoring the commitment of the concerned parties to implementing the withdrawal schedules without any procrastination or delay that would undermine the prestige of the state.”
