Key Card, the company responsible for electronic payment cards, issued a statement on Sunday confirming that some outages had occurred and that it was working to resolve them.
The company said in a statement: We would like to assure Key card users that your cards are operating normally inside and outside Iraq, with some limited fluctuations that we are working to address as soon as possible.
She added, “We are also keen to promote clarity and transparency, and we would like to share with you the details of the fees incurred for using Key cards outside of Iraq, which are calculated according to the exchange rate approved by the Central Bank of Iraq.”
It is noted that a source revealed this morning that a number of Iraqi electronic payment cards have stopped making payments, purchases, shopping, and cash withdrawals outside the country, attributing this to a number of reasons, including high commissions, coinciding with the rise in dollar exchange rates.
The Speaker of Parliament, Hebat al-Halbousi, had previously held a meeting with the head of the Financial Control Bureau, the head of the Retirement Authority, and the deputy director of Rafidain Bank, to discuss a number of financial files, most notably electronic payment, advances, loans, investment projects, and the file of foreign branches, with the aim of strengthening oversight of government financial institutions, protecting public funds, and verifying the movement of funds and cash assets.
Electronic payment cards stopped being able to conduct a number of online shopping and international payment transactions outside of Iraq yesterday, Saturday.
