Iraq’s domestic public debt exceeds 109 trillion dinars by the end of July

Data from the Central Bank of Iraq showed that total domestic public debt rose to about 109.5 trillion dinars by the end of July 2026, compared to about 90.5 trillion dinars at the end of 2025, an increase of about 19 trillion dinars, or 21%, during seven months.

According to data seen by Shafaq News Agency, domestic public debt rose from 103.2 trillion dinars at the end of May to 106.1 trillion dinars at the end of June, before reaching 109.5 trillion dinars at the end of July.

The domestic public debt of 109.5 trillion dinars at the end of July was distributed among the Ministry of Finance’s claims to the Central Bank amounting to 72.5 trillion dinars, treasury bills of 8.74 trillion, loans of 18.95 trillion, and bonds of 9.33 trillion dinars.

This increase in domestic debt comes in conjunction with a rise in public spending, which has reached a level comparable to public revenues.
