The US Treasury Department announced Wednesday evening that it has provided global financial institutions with information to cut off Iran’s revenue sources.
The ministry added, according to media outlets monitored by Shafaq News Agency, that there are meetings with international financial institutions to support the economic isolation of Iran.
The US Treasury’s announcement comes two days after it announced Iran-related sanctions against Russia’s VTB bank, accusing it of participating in efforts to evade sanctions imposed on Tehran, in a new move to intensify economic pressure on it.
The move came after the Treasury Department last week imposed sanctions on individuals and entities in Iraq, Lebanon, the UAE and Turkey, accusing them of supporting the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades and the Lebanese Hezbollah.
On September 8, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against 36 entities and individuals as part of measures targeting the Iranian aviation sector, including 27 Iranian airlines.
The sanctions also targeted front companies and foreign intermediaries that the ministry said were helping Tehran acquire U.S.-made aircraft and sensitive technology.
Washington launched the “economic ostracism” process last August, with the aim of cutting off the economic and financial resources on which the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard rely, according to the Treasury Department.
The Treasury warned that entities that “facilitate money laundering or sanctions evasion on behalf of Tehran risk being denied access to the U.S. financial system.”
