US Vice President J.D. Vance said Tuesday evening that the conflict with Iran will enter a “completely different phase” in the next two months, referring to developments related to regional tensions and the confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
Vance added, in an interview with the New York Post, that the Iranian regime “will continue to lose control of the Strait of Hormuz” until the US midterm elections, considering that the pressures imposed on Tehran will affect its influence and ability to influence one of the most important maritime routes for global energy trade.
Vance also considered that the first phase of the conflict with Iran ended after “destroying its nuclear program, its army and its ability to extend its influence,” noting that Washington had moved to a new phase of dealing with Tehran.
He explained that the second phase of the conflict is to ensure that Iran is unable to rebuild its capabilities, while at the same time maintaining as much global stability as possible.
He added that the current objective is to prevent Tehran from regaining its former military capabilities and influence, while limiting the repercussions of the conflict on international security and stability.
Vance emphasized that President Donald Trump, as the commander-in-chief of the U.S. armed forces, is the one authorized to make decisions regarding the timing of conflicts and their conclusion, in response to a question about when the war in Iran would end.
He noted that “the Iranians occasionally fire on commercial vessels, and usually fail to hit them,” referring to attacks targeting maritime navigation in the region.
