On Wednesday, the Iranian currency continued its collapse against foreign currencies, recording a new record low, with the price of the US dollar exceeding the 220,000 toman mark in the free market, at a time when the upward wave extended to gold and other major currencies.
According to market data, the dollar reached about 220,000 tomans, after having exceeded the level of 210,000 tomans just two days ago, reflecting the accelerating pace of the decline of the Iranian currency within a short period of time.
The losses were not limited to the dollar, as the price of the British pound exceeded 297,000 tomans, while the euro exceeded the level of 255,000 tomans, in unprecedented levels for the Iranian currency against major foreign currencies.
The surge in price moved in parallel to the gold market, where the price of the new Iranian gold coin known as “Emami” exceeded 226 million Tomans, while local data showed that it reached about 226.9 million Tomans during Wednesday’s trading.
The latest drop in the Iranian currency comes at a time when markets are under increasing pressure due to
Renewed military escalation with the United States, as well as sanctions, internal economic imbalances, and high inflation rates.
The dollar had exceeded 210,000 tomans on Monday, before jumping to more than 220,000 on Wednesday, an increase of more than 10,000 tomans in just two days.
