US President Donald Trump asserted on Monday that Iran faces a choice between reaching an agreement or complete surrender, noting that “the Iranian leadership is incredibly deceitful,” as he put it.
Trump continued in press statements: “Nothing will reach Iran unless we want it to, unless there is an agreement or complete surrender,” indicating that “the Iranian leadership is incredibly duplicitous; they ask for a meeting and then say they are not holding any talks.”
Trump pointed out that “Iran asks to negotiate and then goes on to repeat its usual claims that it will manage the Strait of Hormuz forcefully, but it is under complete American control,” stressing that “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”
In recent weeks, the United States has launched intensive airstrikes aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to threaten navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and pushing it back to the negotiating table, but so far there are no signs of an agreement between the two sides.
