Egypt announced on Wednesday its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and Jordan, condemning the attacks that targeted oil facilities in the Kingdom and the attacks that targeted Jordan, describing them as a violation of international law and an escalation that threatens the security of the region.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it condemns “in the strongest terms” the targeting of oil facilities in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the attacks that targeted the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, considering them to be unacceptable attacks on the sovereignty of states and civilian and vital facilities, a flagrant violation of international law, and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region and undermines global energy security.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry affirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and its support for the measures taken by the two countries to maintain their security and stability and protect their sovereignty and vital facilities, reiterating its rejection of all attacks targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure or affecting the security and sovereignty of Arab countries.
The Egyptian position comes hours after the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council , Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabia, stressing that the Gulf states stand with the Kingdom and support its measures to protect its security and sovereignty, while accusing Iraqi armed factions of being behind the attacks.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that it had destroyed drones that targeted oil facilities in the Kingdom, noting that they were launched from inside Iraqi territory.
Following this, and despite the Iraqi government’s announcement of its condemnation of the attacks and the formation of an investigation committee into the incident, joint US-Saudi fighter jets launched airstrikes at dawn on Wednesday targeting sites belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces inside Iraq, which, according to the organization, resulted in the death of 20 of its members and the injury of 32 others in an initial count.
