Political analyst Ali al-Tawil believes that the Prime Minister’s anti-corruption campaign has targeted only small fry and failed to reach the major figures involved in corruption within the political process.
Al-Tawil told Al-Maalouma, “The anti-corruption campaign launched by Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi is still in the stage of catching small fry and has not yet reached the point of apprehending the big fish.”
He added, “There are major figures in the political process who have escaped the anti-corruption campaign, such as al-Halbousi and al-Khanjar, in addition to other figures from various political factions. Furthermore, the campaign has not reached any of the key figures, whether minor or major, in the Kurdistan Region.”
He explained that “the failure to bring down the major corrupt figures leaves observers of the political scene with doubts about the end of this campaign, from which citizens expect more stringent measures and action targeting the major figures involved in corruption.”
