The family of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the former deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Forces, issued a statement on Wednesday regarding US President Donald Trump’s remarks during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
The family stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “Trump’s recent remarks and his mention of Qassem Soleimani and Al-Muhandis clearly indicate his fear,” as they put it.
She added, referring to al-Zaidi: “We would like to remind this official (new to politics), who holds the title of Iraqi Prime Minister, that whoever shirks his country’s bright past severs his connection with his nation’s roots, and whoever’s past is a history of falsehood is not worthy of leading the future.”
The family explained that al-Zaidi’s visit to Washington aimed to achieve two main goals: first, to dismantle the Popular Mobilization Forces, as an ideological force that, by virtue of its formation, existence and history, confronts the forces of arrogance and their tools, in continuation of a journey that began with the assassination of al-Muhandis; and second, to control Iraqi oil wealth.
She stressed that “what is being proposed regarding the need to dismantle the resistance and hand over weapons under the banner of restricting weapons to the state is an unacceptable American-Zionist discourse, regardless of its source.”
The family concluded their statement by emphasizing “the need to resist and confront the economic presence that is trying to plunder our wealth, just as we resist their military presence with all our might.”
This comes hours after a statement by the Secretary-General of the Al-Nujaba Movement, Akram Al-Kaabi, in which he attacked Trump over his recent statements, in which he addressed Soleimani, during his meeting yesterday with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, while accusing American companies of being behind the failure of the electricity sector in the country.
Al-Zaidi arrived in the US capital, Washington, on Tuesday, at the head of a high-level delegation that included a number of ministers, officials, investors and business owners, for an official visit that will last seven days.
Al-Zaidi met with US President Donald Trump at the White House, where the latter spoke during the meeting about his role in the assassination of Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
