On Monday, the Kurdistan Regional Government directed the Ministry of Interior and Kurdish security institutions to work jointly with federal authorities to combat corruption and hold those involved accountable.
A statement from the office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, received by Shafaq News Agency, stated that this directive comes within the framework of “strong and continuous cooperation and coordination” between the Prime Minister of the Federal Government, Ali Zaidi, and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, and the relevant authorities and institutions in the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government.
According to the statement, Barzani directed the Ministry of Interior and the institutions of the Kurdistan Region Security Council to work jointly with the relevant authorities in the federal government to combat corruption and hold corrupt individuals accountable.
He pointed out that in the past period, as a result of this cooperation between the two sides, and within the campaign to combat corruption and protect public funds, the necessary measures were taken against the corrupt, they were arrested, and large amounts of money, gold, property and assets were recovered and returned to the state treasury.
In this context, and in the latest operation of this kind, the relevant authorities in the Kurdistan Regional Government handed over 358 kilograms of seized gold to the Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission.
The Kurdistan Regional Government affirmed its continued commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination with the federal government to confront corruption, put an end to the waste of public funds, and consolidate integrity and the rule of law.
