Parliament accuses Al-Sudani of squandering public funds: granting Al-Khadra and Al-Khanjar properties to his relatives at ridiculously low prices

Member of Parliament Mukhtar al-Moussawi accused former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Monday of exploiting his executive position to squander public funds by granting his relatives, as well as the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis al-Khanjar, and his son, strategic properties and lands within the Green Zone at ridiculously low prices that do not reflect their true value. He cited the Rixos Hotel, located in the heart of the Green Zone, as an example.
Al-Moussawi told the Information Agency, “The former prime minister deliberately exploited his position and executive responsibilities to squander state property and waste public money.” He explained that “the properties and lands granted to his close associates, and to the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis al-Khanjar, and his son, Sarmad al-Khanjar, within the heavily fortified Green Zone, were sold at extremely low prices, far below their prevailing market value.”
He added, “There is confirmed information indicating that al-Sudani has been conducting intensive communications with foreign entities to reach a settlement that would guarantee him protection from legal accountability and prevent him from appearing before the competent courts.”
Al-Moussawi called on the judiciary and the public prosecution to “intervene immediately and open a comprehensive investigation into this case, in addition to other cases related to suspected corruption and squandering of public funds committed during the Al-Sudani government.”
