MP Ahmed al-Moussawi affirmed on Sunday that the current parliamentary session differs from its predecessors in its handling of corruption cases and the pursuit of those involved in stealing public funds. He stressed that the Parliament will continue to exercise its oversight role by questioning officials suspected of corruption.
Al-Moussawi told the Information Agency, “The current parliamentary session differs from its predecessors in terms of combating corruption and pursuing those involved in stealing public funds.” He explained that “Parliament will not hesitate to question any minister or head of an authority against whom suspicions of corruption are proven.”
He added that “the first questioning in the sixth parliamentary session was positive and represents the beginning of activating the Parliament’s oversight role.” He indicated that “Parliament is proceeding with the process of questioning anyone it deems to have committed a violation or negligence in performing their duties, in accordance with constitutional and legal frameworks.”
