Amer Al-Fayez, leader of the “Design” Alliance and a leading figure in the Coordination Framework, confirmed on Sunday that Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi briefed the Framework’s forces on the issues he will discuss during his scheduled visit to Washington tomorrow, noting that the visit’s agenda focuses primarily on the economy and investment, in addition to his participation in a regional meeting discussing the repercussions of the war with Iran.
Al-Fayez told Shafaq News Agency that “Al-Zidi presented to the Coordination Framework forces all the files that he will carry in his briefcase to Washington, most of which focus on the economic file, and attracting major American companies and investors to implement projects that contribute to the development of the Iraqi economy.”
Regarding the issue of armed factions, he explained that “the Prime Minister agreed with the American side and the factions that the end of next September will be the last date for handing over weapons, coinciding with the date of the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq according to the security agreement between Baghdad and Washington.”
He added that “the dialogues that the government conducted with the factions showed flexibility in the issue of handing over weapons, so this issue will not be a source of concern during the Iraqi-American talks.”
Al-Fayez noted that “Al-Zidi will also participate in a meeting held in Washington with a number of Gulf leaders to discuss the repercussions of the war with Iran and its impact on the region’s security,” explaining that “the forces of the Coordination Framework were aware of this meeting, and that the Prime Minister’s participation came at the invitation of the government.”
He stressed that “Al-Zaidi represents Iraq in his capacity as Prime Minister, and will work to implement what achieves the national interest. He is aware of the orientations of the coordination framework and the active political forces, and will not deviate in his positions from the constants that govern Iraqi politics.”
Earlier today, Iraqi government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi stressed that the issue of restricting weapons to the state is an Iraqi decision aimed at securing the atmosphere and consolidating internal stability, as it is a fundamental step to revive the Iraqi economy and create a suitable environment for investment and development.
According to Al-Aboudi, the talks and meetings that will take place during Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s visit to Washington on Monday will be based on the Strategic Framework Agreement between Iraq and the United States, and will focus on strengthening cooperation in a number of areas, most notably energy, the economy, investment, development and education.
An informed source revealed new details on Saturday about Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s visit to Washington, indicating that it will include meetings with members of the US Congress, in addition to his participation in a Gulf conference in the US capital to discuss the repercussions of the Iranian war.
