US officials: Negotiations with Tehran are in their final stage

The American website Axios reported on Friday that negotiations with Iran have reached their final stages, indicating that American negotiators Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner have met with American nuclear experts.
Axios quoted US officials as saying that “Kushner and Woitkoff met yesterday with nuclear experts at the National Laboratory in Tennessee.”
Officials confirmed that “there are still disagreements between Washington and Tehran on a number of details of the memorandum of understanding,” noting that “negotiations are in their final stage, and it is unclear whether we will reach an agreement.”
The officials added that “Witkopf and Kushner’s meeting with nuclear experts does not mean that an agreement will happen,” indicating that “the meeting is an indication that the negotiations are in a serious phase.”
Negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue amid disagreements over Iranian funds frozen abroad.
American media reports indicate that Iran is demanding immediate financial compensation of $12 billion upon signing any preliminary agreement, while Washington prefers to link the release of funds to Tehran’s compliance with the terms of the agreement.
Iran’s frozen assets abroad are estimated at around $100 billion, and the US administration considers them one of the most important bargaining chips used in the ongoing negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
