Iran’s Supreme Leader gives green light for agreement with Washington

A US official revealed on Sunday that reaching a final agreement with Iran next Sunday seems unlikely, while noting that Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has approved the latest agreement.
The official told the American website Axios that “there are files and formulations that still need to be resolved between the two sides,” indicating that “some phrases are of great importance to the United States, while Iran adheres to other formulations.”
He added that “the current disagreements revolve around the final details of the memorandum of understanding,” explaining that “the Iranian regime in its current form is not moving quickly, and the process of completing the necessary approvals is expected to take several days.”
The US official noted that “the Iranian Supreme Leader, as we understand it, has agreed to the broad general framework of the agreement,” adding that “the most prominent question now is whether the memorandum of understanding will actually turn into a final binding agreement between the two parties.”
Fox News quoted a senior US official as saying: “We have observed serious and unprecedented Iranian concessions regarding the enrichment file,” adding: “Our plan includes dealing with Iran’s entire stockpile of enriched materials.”
The official continued: “We reject the imposition of any transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, and this option is unacceptable to us.”
Earlier today, US President Donald Trump commented on the negotiations between America and Iran, stressing that the deal currently being negotiated with Iran is completely different from what he called Obama’s “bad deal”.
Trump’s statement comes after his announcement on Saturday that a preliminary agreement had been reached with Iran, which includes opening the Strait of Hormuz.
Israeli officials on Saturday expressed concern about a US-Iranian agreement that does not address the nuclear program.
CNN quoted sources as saying that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in contact with American officials throughout Saturday evening and is expected to speak with Trump soon.
