Iraqi officials discuss with U.S companies, investment opportunities in housing and construction sectors.

BAGHDAD / NINA / the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and some Iraqi officials from the National Investment Commission, the Ministries of Construction and Housing, Planning and many regional investment bodies discussed the investment opportunities in Iraqi housing and construction sectors with of American companies, which participated in the meeting via video from Washington.

The embassy said in a statement: “The meeting was a part of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s program titled / the direct line of American business /” noting that “the participants have focused on the plan of the Iraqi Government to build one million new housing units in the whole of Iraq.

“The U.S companies’ representatives discussed with the President of the National Investment Commission, Sami al-Araji, Deputy Minister of Housing and Reconstruction, Estabraq al-Shok and the general manager of governmental investment in the Ministry of Planning the challenges to meet the demand of the housing sector in Iraq and the available opportunities for U.S. companies to share their experiences,” the statement added.

The officials of the provincial investment bodies spoke about additional investment opportunities in each of the provinces of Salahuddin, Anbar, Diwaniyah, Dhi Qar, Nineveh, Diyala and Muthanna.

The statement noted that the participants of the private sector from the United States have expressed their optimism about Iraq’s ability to grow economically, and also highlighted the importance of encouraging the foreign investment in Iraq.

The statement concluded that “the direct line of the America business was inaugurated on 21 February at the World Business, and the program aims to document the economic and trade relations between the United States and its foreign partners through the direct contact and the cooperation between the government and the private sector”.
