US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted on Friday that Washington would not make a “bad” deal with Iran and that Tehran possessing a nuclear weapon would mean permanent control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Rubio said in a press statement: “If we allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, it will permanently control the Strait of Hormuz.”
He added: “The Iranians would be mistaken if they thought we would make concessions to reach a deal. We will not make a bad deal with Iran under any circumstances.”
Regarding whether US President Donald Trump had asked China for help, Rubio confirmed that Trump had not asked the Chinese president for help with Iran, “and we don’t need it.”
