US State Department: We will not sign an agreement with Tehran like Obama did

The US State Department confirmed on Thursday that Washington will not sign an agreement with the Iranian government, as former US President Barack Obama did.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said, “President Donald Trump has made his objectives clear: Iran cannot acquire a nuclear weapon.”
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Bigot added, “Our main objective is to prevent the Iranian regime from acquiring a nuclear weapon,” noting that “President Trump prefers face-to-face talks and is ready to conduct them.”
The State Department spokesman pointed out that “the president will not send his envoys on an 18-hour trip just to look at a piece of paper,” adding: “We want to obtain Iran’s enriched uranium to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.”
Bigot added: “We thank our allies and partners in the region for their coordination and assistance,” stressing: “We do not want an agreement with Iran like the one signed by President Obama, nor do we want a bad agreement with them.”
It is worth noting that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed earlier on Thursday that President Donald Trump is leading efforts to reach a “great deal” with Iran, revealing that the latter is following North Korea’s strategy to obtain a nuclear weapon by building a missile shield.
Hegseth added in statements followed by Shafaq News Agency, that “Iran cannot rebuild its military capabilities and we are working to prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and that Operation Epic Wrath has achieved a resounding success and provided a great opportunity to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon.”
Earlier on Thursday, Iran stressed that halting provocative statements and actions by the United States is a prerequisite for any confidence-building process, while emphasizing the need to end the war through serious negotiations, while maintaining its insistence on managing the Strait of Hormuz without any American presence.
