The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, revealed on Thursday the likely location of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile.
Grossi told the Associated Press that “most of Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium is still, most likely, at the Isfahan nuclear complex, which was hit by an American air strike last year and suffered less severe attacks during the war on Iran that began on February 28.”
He stated that “the International Atomic Energy Agency has satellite images showing the impact of the recent US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran,” adding, “We are still receiving new information.”
The agency’s inspections in Isfahan ended last June, when Israel launched a 12-day war, at the end of which the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear sites.
Grossi explained that “his agency believes that a large proportion of Iran’s highly enriched uranium was stored there in June 2025, when the 12-day war broke out, and has been there ever since.”
He also explained that “the agency discussed with Russia and other countries the possibility of removing Iran’s highly enriched uranium from the country, a complex process that requires either a political agreement or a US ground military operation.”
Grossi noted that “the important thing is that these materials leave Iran, or are mixed to reduce their enrichment level.”
He added that “the agency participated in nuclear talks between the United States and Iran last February, but was not part of the recent ceasefire negotiations mediated by Pakistan.”
He confirmed that “the agency held separate talks with the United States, and informal talks with Iran.”
