On Thursday, US President Donald Trump reposted an image on Truth Social in which he referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” in a move described as a “new escalation,” coinciding with his issuing strongly worded threats to Iran.
This post comes after Trump posted an AI-generated image on the platform showing him holding a rifle with the caption “No More Nice Guy,” and wrote: “Iran can’t hold together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear agreement. They better get smart soon.”
These threats came after Trump cancelled the planned trip of US negotiators to Islamabad last week, asserting that Washington holds all the cards and that Iran must come to it if it wants to negotiate.
In contrast, Tehran had proposed reopening the strait in exchange for lifting the American blockade on its ports and ending the war, while postponing discussions on its nuclear program. This proposal was not accepted by Trump, and the White House is expected to respond with a counter-offer.
