US President Donald Trump stated that he believed the suspect who stormed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and opened fire was a “lone wolf,” saying, “In my opinion, he was a lone wolf,” and describing the man as “mentally disturbed.”
The US president added that he felt there was no reason to believe the attack was related to the war in Iran, as Trump described the suspected shooter during the media event he was attending in Washington as a “potential killer,” noting that he possessed “many weapons.”
Trump also stated at a White House press conference that the man breached a security checkpoint, adding, “One officer was shot, but obviously he survived because he was wearing a very good bulletproof vest.” He continued, “We looked at all the circumstances of what happened tonight, and I will say, as you know, it’s not a particularly secure building.”
