US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the cancellation of the visit of the US negotiating delegation with Iran to Pakistan.
Trump told Fox News: “I told negotiator Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner that they are not going to make an 18-hour trip to talk about nothing.”
He added, “I decided to cancel Whitkopf and Kushner’s visit to meet with the Iranians in Islamabad.”
The American website Axios reported on Saturday that there were no signs of any progress in the negotiations between Iran and the United States .
The website stated that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi left Islamabad after meetings with Pakistani officials .
He added: “Araghchi was not supposed to wait for the American delegation to arrive in Pakistan .”
Axios indicated that Araqchi might return to Pakistan at the beginning of the week to meet with the Americans .
He clarified that “Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner are still in Miami and have not traveled to Pakistan .”
Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed regional developments and the ceasefire issue with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad .
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that “Araqchi explained during the meeting Tehran’s position on a ceasefire and an end to the war,” noting the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
