Araghchi informs Islamabad of his country’s position on the ceasefire

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed regional developments and the ceasefire issue with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that “Araqchi explained during the meeting Tehran’s position on a ceasefire and an end to the war,” noting the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
She added that “Araghchi praised the Pakistani government’s interest in implementing the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon,” appreciating Islamabad’s efforts in “supporting efforts to end the war on Iran and hosting the relevant negotiations.”
For its part, the Pakistani Prime Minister’s office stated that “the Prime Minister held a meeting with Araqchi in the presence of the Foreign Minister and the Chief of Army Staff, during which developments in the region and related security and political issues were discussed.”
In a related context, a Pakistani official, according to media reports, stated that “Araqchi informed the Pakistani leadership of Iran’s insistence on lifting the American naval blockade on its ports and stopping American attacks,” noting that “Tehran expressed its complete reservations regarding the demands of the American side.”
A Pakistani official, according to Reuters, confirmed that “the meeting between the two sides in the capital, Islamabad, has ended,” without disclosing further details regarding the meeting’s outcomes.
This came after the White House announced on Friday that US President Donald Trump would send his envoys Steve Wittkopf and Jared Kushner to Pakistan to meet with the Iranian foreign minister.
