US military officials revealed that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard launched three attacks targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, as Tehran closed it again to maritime traffic.
For its part, the British Maritime Operations Authority announced that it had received reports that a container ship had been attacked 25 nautical miles northeast of the Sultanate of Oman, causing damage to some containers but no human casualties.
For its part, the US Central Command indicated that Apache helicopters are conducting patrols in the airspace of the Strait of Hormuz to provide support for freedom of navigation.
In a related context, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said in press statements that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iranian control, stressing that “either they give us our right through negotiations, or we will seize it on the ground,” in reference to Tehran’s rejection of US President Donald Trump’s imposition of a blockade on Iranian seaports despite the ceasefire and the reliance on the table of understandings hosted by Islamabad with the aim of reaching a comprehensive peace agreement in the region.
This comes as the military spokesman for the Iranian “Khatam al-Anbiya” headquarters announced earlier today the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz as it was during the 40-day military conflict in the region, stressing that the strait will remain under the control of the armed forces and under strict monitoring, noting that the continuation of this situation depends on the United States not committing to guaranteeing the freedom of movement of ships to and from Iran.
