On Thursday evening, 80 countries called on the United Nations to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
In a joint statement, the countries demanded “safe passage for ships without fees, and that Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz threaten security and navigation.”
She stressed: “We reiterate our call for the urgent and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” noting that the Houthi advance towards Bab al-Mandab increases the risks to shipping, maritime security, and global trade.
