Abdul Wahed Al-Hamad Al-Dulaimi, one of those close to the Taqadum Party in Anbar, revealed on Sunday that an integrity committee is investigating 4 of the party’s leaders following their involvement in operations to purchase the liabilities of some representatives during the voting processes to elect a new president to head Parliament.
Al-Dulaimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency: “The Integrity Committee summoned 4 of the most prominent leaders of the Taqadum Party against the backdrop of their involvement in paying sums to a number of members of the House of Representatives in exchange for voting on the candidate of the ousted President Muhammad Al-Halbousi, Shaalan Al-Karim, to fill the position of Speaker of the new House of Representatives.”
He added, “Al-Halbousi formed a specialized committee to negotiate with the representatives before the first round of electing a new president, and it was agreed to allocate large sums of money to entice some of the representatives with money and promises of positions, contracts, and other concessions.”
He explained that “punishments up to imprisonment await those involved in purchasing the accounts of some members of the House of Representatives and referring them to the judiciary, including the ousted President Muhammad al-Halbousi.
