Data from Kpler showed a decline in shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz last week, with the number of vessels transiting the vital waterway for the region’s oil exports continuing to fall.
The data showed that Saudi Arabia accounted for about half of these exports, while Iraq’s share was 35% of the total crude oil shipments that left the strait during that week.
Thirteen oil tankers left the Strait of Hormuz during the week that began on September 13, 2026, carrying approximately 34 million barrels of crude oil.
This data comes at a time when shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains significantly lower than pre-war levels, when the strait typically received around 125 large commercial vessels daily before the war began on February 28.
Data released on Monday showed that 12 commodity ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz at the start of the week, down from 35 at the start of the previous week, as tensions in the Gulf continued and the situation between the US and Iran remained at a standstill.
Visible shipping traffic through the strait, which before the war carried a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, has dwindled to very limited levels, but Middle Eastern producers continue to export oil on tankers that pass through with their transponders switched off.
