15 industrial cities along the development routeThe Industrial Cities Authority in the Ministry of Industry and Minerals stated that the development route will include 15 industrial cities.

Last Thursday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated the first section of the Development Road, linking the Grand Faw Port and the international highway in Basra Governorate, with a length of (63) km. He emphasized that this road is one of the most important pillars of the Faw Port and Development Road project, which our government has given great attention to, as it is the most prominent in the history of the Iraqi state. He indicated the opening of the first phase of the five berths and the achievement of advanced rates in the completion of the submerged tunnel and the navigation channel project, after the completion rates of the five basic projects were (20 percent) when our government took responsibility.

The head of the Industrial Cities Authority, Anas Hashim Abdul Majeed, stated during his interview with “Al-Sabah” that the development route passes through (15) stations, namely (Al-Faw, Basra, Nasiriyah, Samawah, Diwaniyah, Najaf, Hilla, Karbala, Baghdad, Samarra, Tikrit, Baiji, Mosul, Rabia, Fishkhabur), indicating that it is planned that each of these stations will include an industrial city.

He added that Iraq will witness a major economic recovery by providing many opportunities through the establishment and development of cities in all Iraqi governorates and achieving an increase in the gross domestic product, through the development of various economic sectors and an increase in foreign and national investments, improving the standard of living by providing job opportunities and increasing per capita income, and diversifying the economy by supporting new industries that will be established in the newly developed industrial cities along the route, and strengthening the infrastructure to achieve a sustainable and balanced economy.

Abdul Majeed emphasized that Iraq will strive to attract foreign investments, which will contribute to creating a favorable economic environment, encouraging foreign capital investment in the country, and enhancing trade exchange. This, in turn, will strengthen Iraq’s international relations and cooperation by achieving shared interests, creating thousands of job opportunities, localizing industries, facilitating trade and travel both domestically and internationally, and expediting the movement of goods between East and West through Iraq. For his part, economist Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani stated that the provinces along the development route will witness the establishment of fully integrated economic cities.

Al-Mashhadani told Al-Sabah: “These cities will have various industries, some of which are for export and others for investing the available resources in each of those governorates, citing as an example the huge economic city in Al-Faw, where a refinery will be built for the purpose of exporting oil derivatives, in addition to a power station and another for water desalination, not to mention the chalets and hotels that will be located between the port of Al-Faw and Umm Qasr and will be invested in by the Gulf countries.”

Al-Mashhadani continued, “As we move north in the governorates of Dhi Qar, Samawah, Karbala, Salah al-Din and the other governorates through which the road passes, different cities are built in them, the benefit of which is creating job opportunities, investing resources in each of them and creating a balanced developmental environment.”

Al-Mashhadani emphasized that each of these cities could solve many problems, including extreme poverty and unemployment, and would allow for the construction of large residential complexes and power stations, and would be located close to the main road.
