The General Company for Iraqi Ports revealed that (11) specialized Arab and international companies submitted applications to manage and operate the Grand Faw Port after the project is completed, in a step that reflects international interest in this strategic facility.
The company’s general manager, Dr. Eng. Farhan Al-Fartousi, told Al-Sabah: “Only three companies will be chosen from among the (11) companies to manage and operate the port’s operations after its completion,” indicating that the selection process will be carried out according to precise technical and economic standards.
He added that a high-level committee headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and including the Minister of Transport and a number of advisors is closely monitoring the project’s implementation phases. Several meetings have been held, resulting in important decisions, most notably the openness to specialized international companies.
Al-Fartousi pointed out that the company is working according to a clear government plan and an integrated administrative and technical program, in coordination with consulting firms. He emphasized the presence of a specialized team to formulate the port’s expansion policy.
He emphasized that Iraq’s ports are pursuing a strategy of openness and international cooperation, and are working to provide the necessary facilities for investors to complete the project, which represents one of the largest maritime projects in the region and a key pillar of the development path.
