Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi received a telephone call from US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Saturday evening, confirming the rejection of the referendum in the Kurdistan region and support for Iraq’s unity.
“The United States rejects the referendum in Kurdistan, stressing the full support of his country for the Iraqi government and all its steps aimed at preserving Iraq’s unity,” the statement said.
Tillerson also congratulated the Iraqi people and their valiant forces on the glorious victories of the terrorist gangs in the recent battles
and conveyed the international community’s tribute to the distinguished role of the slaves in the military victory and in the plans to restore stability and reconstruction of the liberated areas.
For his part, Abadi stressed the clear and clear position of the Iraqi government on the unconstitutionality of the Kurdistan referendum, stressing that all legal steps necessary to prevent the exposure of security and social peace and the unity of the country are at stake.
He also pointed to Iraq’s insistence on accelerating the liberation of all territories from the clutches of terrorism and the preservation of the Iraqi borders, praising international support for Iraq in the battle of liberation, reconstruction and stability.
