Baghdad, General Electric Company announced, on Monday, that two GT13E2 gas turbines have been connected at the Zubair power generation plant with the national grid, as part of its serious and continuous commitment to provide the necessary electrical energy to activate economic growth in the country and raise the living standards of its people.
“Adding electric power to the national grid in Iraq is very important to get rid of the power outages facing the people of Iraq,” said Joseph Anees, President and Executive Director of General Electric’s Energy Services and Gas Energy Systems business unit in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Therefore, the two turbines will together generate up to 300 megawatts of electric power. It is expected to complete the construction work at the plant in 2021, and it will be equipped with four GT13E2 gas turbines, which together are likely to generate up to 700 megawatts upon completion. ”

The permanent Zubair power generation plant is owned by the Basra Oil Company and is located in the Zubair oil field, about 20 kilometers from Basra. ENI Iraq BV is responsible for developing the oil field and has awarded General Electric a contract to provide engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning services for the electric power plant. The company has continued to work on this project despite the great challenges posed by the “Covid-19″ pandemic, as it has taken care to implement strict measures and procedures to contain the outbreak at the work site, including checking employees’ temperatures and distributing personal protective equipment from masks.
