The Ministry of Electricity denied, on Sunday, its intention to sell any national power stations to private companies
The ministry said in a statement: “In recent days, we have noticed an escalation in attempts to mislead the public opinion about the fabrications that had previously been rejected by the Ministry of Electricity in a previous statement regarding the lie of the ministry’s intention to sell national power stations in Basra or in any other city to private companies.”
The statement added, “The CAR company had previously been granted an investment opportunity by decision of the Council of Ministers No. (90) of 2014 to establish an investment station with a capacity of (3000) three thousand megawatts. Equivalent to approximately (1400) megawatts, provided that the opportunity is completed for the remaining capacity of up to (1600) megawatts at other sites and this has not been done so far (they have only been given the aforementioned combined cycle).
The statement continued, “The company submitted a proposal to avoid the problems that occur as a result of the presence of two parties working in the same site, in order to depend on the investor’s equipment on the continuity of operating the ministry’s equipment (the simple cycle) by establishing a station with the same specifications and capacities as existing, for the benefit of the ministry and at any location the ministry deems appropriate.”
The statement stated, “Within the context of routine communications in any institution in the country, any proposal is presented for discussion in the relevant departments before it is officially answered.”
The statement denied, “The Ministry of Electricity intends to sell or dispose of any of its stations, and the matter unfortunately entered into auctions.”
The statement considered the information circulating as “lies that citizens know within the scope of accumulated social experience,” calling on the media to “exercise national responsibility in monitoring and dealing with this kind of systematic misleading of public opinion.”
