Shafaq News/ The Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives decided on Tuesday to set the end of this February as a date to host the Iraqi Finance Minister Ali Abdul Amir Allawi, at his request and the request of 100 parliamentarians against the backdrop of his boycott of a meeting held by Parliament in which the repercussions of the high exchange rates of the dollar against the local currency were discussed.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, the First Deputy and the Second Deputy held a meeting with the heads of parliamentary blocs, earlier today, to discuss a number of issues related to the work of the Council during the coming period, according to a statement issued by the Council.
A statement issued by the Majali stated that, during the meeting, the mechanism for distributing members to the parliamentary committees was discussed, as the presidency of the Council called on the heads of the parliamentary blocs to expedite the presentation of the names of their candidates, taking into account the competence, experience and efficiency in this, and emphasizing the need to proceed with resolving the formation of committees. Regularity of the council’s agenda and activating the legislative and oversight role, regardless of the issue of electing the president of the republic or forming the next government.
The Presidency of the Council, during the expanded meeting with the heads of the parliamentary blocs, instructed the Parliamentary Department to distribute the unfinished bills in the previous session (due to the end of the Council’s work before the end of its regular session and the holding of early elections) to members of the House of Representatives in the various committees, with the aim of maturing them and completing their legislation in the session. current.
The Presidency of the Council has set Monday of next week as a date for holding a session of the House of Representatives, for the purpose of voting on the formation of parliamentary committees and the distribution of Representatives to the committees.
The agenda of the next session, on Monday, February 28, will include hosting the Minister of Finance, in accordance with Parliament Law and its formations No. 13 of 2018 and the Parliament’s internal system, at the request of Representative Burhan Al-Maamouri with the support of 100 deputies, according to the statement.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives held a meeting on Saturday (February 19) attended by the Governor of the Central Bank, Mustafa Ghaleb Mikhaif, and the Minister of Finance, Ali Abdul Amir Allawi, boycotted it to discuss the repercussions of the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar.
After the meeting, the Iraqi parliament formally requested the Public Prosecution to prevent the current Minister of Finance, Ali Abdul Amir Allawi, from traveling, after the latter refused to attend the hosting.
It is noteworthy that the Central Bank of Iraq, on December 19, 2020, officially announced the amendment of the foreign exchange rate (the US dollar) to be 145,000 dinars for every $100, according to the state’s general budget for the year 2021 approved by the House of Representatives.
As a result, according to specialists, the annual inflation in Iraq rose significantly, so that the prices of all materials and commodities in the Iraqi market rose significantly, which sparked a wave of strong resentment among the popular circles, as well as the objections of some interested in economic affairs.
