Shafaq News/ Khaled Al-Yaqoubi, the security advisor to the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, confirmed on Saturday that Iraq has “large” arms contracts with the United States of America, but at the same time he said that Washington is dealing with this file “with a kind of selfishness and according to political calculations.” .
This came during his hosting of a dialogue symposium on the sidelines of the sixth edition of the Baghdad International Conference under the title (Regional Communication…The Centrality of Iraq).
Al-Yaqoubi said during his hosting, “We have entered into large arms contracts with the United States of America, and it has a kind of selfishness in this aspect, and it always deals with military equipment files according to political calculations. If the situation is not in harmony with its policy to a large extent, it may be held accountable as it did with the government.” Nouri al-Maliki in his second session.
Regarding the bilateral dialogue between Iraq and the United States to end the mission of the international coalition, Al-Yaqoubi said that America “unfortunately delayed the dialogue by 5 months, as they used the excuse that they do not negotiate under fire.”
He added, “We always advised them that the opportunity to sit at the dialogue table would give the Iraqi government and political forces greater flexibility and space to exert greater pressure on the factions, and there would be a reduction in escalation to prove credibility,” stressing that Al-Sudani was able to convince the American side to enter into the dialogue, and now the second round of it has ended. .
The media office of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, in a brief statement, announced at the end of last month that Al-Sudani sponsored the launch of the first round of bilateral dialogue between Iraq and the United States of America to end the mission of the international coalition in the country.
Al-Sudani had confirmed on more than one occasion to start a dialogue with the international coalition against ISIS, led by the United States of America, to end its mission in the country.
