US President Donald Trump announced, on Thursday, the withdrawal of large numbers of US forces in Iraq, while affirming support for Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
Trump said in a joint press conference he held with Al-Kazemi in Washington, “The American forces have largely withdrawn from Iraq and very few soldiers remain.”
While affirming his “commitment to the rapid exit of the international coalition forces over a period of three years.”
Trump added, “Washington affirms its support for Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries and the need to respect the sovereignty of Iraq.”
He continued, “Washington affirms its support for Al-Kazemi’s plans to reform the Iraqi economy,” declaring, “Al-Kazemi is a man who is very compatible with him.”
Trump referred to “the signing of a memorandum of understanding to support the health sector in Iraq between the Iraqi government and Washington, and Baghdad and Washington also agreed to form a special team to discuss mechanisms and timings for the redeployment of the international coalition forces.”
He noted at the conclusion of his speech that “Baghdad and Washington also signed a memorandum of understanding to support the health sector in Iraq.”
