The Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee confirmed, on Saturday, that the law is still a prisoner of political differences between the center and the region.

Committee member Nazem Al-Shibli said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The oil and gas law faces disagreements between the center and the region regarding external contracts.”

He added that “the law is subject to the political mood more than technical matters,” noting that “the technical committees have come a long way between the center and the region in order to overcome problems and bring viewpoints closer together.”

He explained that “the points of disagreement over the oil and gas law are political, while the technical points are agreed upon,” stressing that “the differences prevent the adoption of the draft oil and gas law.”

A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Natural Resources Committee, MP Kazem Al-Touki, confirmed that political consensus is not present to resolve the oil and gas law and pass it in Parliament.
