Parliamentary efforts to prevent payment of any sums of money to Kurdistan in the 2021 budgetThe head of the Government Program Implementation and Strategic Planning Committee, Hazem Al-Khalidi, announced, on Sunday, that it will seek to include provisions in the General Budget Law for 2021 that oblige Kurdistan to pay oil imports.

Al-Khalidi said in a press interview that “the regional government is part of the federal government and it must abide by all laws, and one of these laws is the General Budget Law.”

He added that “the current government and the one that preceded it tried to win over the region by sending money to it,” indicating that “the application of the law must apply to everyone without excluding one governorate from another.”

He pointed out that “the House of Representatives seeks to put into place provisions binding on the government not to pay any sums of money to Kurdistan unless it receives oil imports so that it is fair to all Iraqi provinces.”
