Shafaq News/ The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, confirmed on Tuesday, during his meeting with the new head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), that the only solution to the pending issues between Erbil and Baghdad is to fully implement the constitution.
The media office of the presidency of the region said in a statement received by Shafak News Agency, “The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, received this afternoon, Tuesday, Mohammed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq and the new head of the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).”
He continued: “In the meeting, President Barzani congratulated Al-Hassan on his appointment and wished him success, and stressed the Kurdistan Region’s support for the success of the mission of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.”
He explained that “Al-Hassan expressed his happiness to visit the Kurdistan Region, and thanked President Nechirvan Barzani and the relevant authorities in the Kurdistan Region for their cooperation with the United Nations team in Iraq.”
He pointed out that “the two sides discussed the Kurdish parliamentary elections, the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and the conditions of the components, especially the Yazidis. In this regard, Nechirvan Barzani thanked the United Nations for its assistance to the Electoral Commission.”
Regarding the pending issues between Erbil and Baghdad, the President of the Kurdistan Region stressed, according to the statement, that “the only solution is to fully implement the constitution and maintain peace and stability in Iraq, as well as improve the conditions of the Yazidis and restore peace and security in their areas, considering the return of the displaced to their homes a necessity.”
