Nechirvan Barzani - The Kurdistan Region is seriously seeking the success of the Sudanese governmentShafaq News/ The President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani said on Wednesday that the region is striving very seriously for the success of the federal government headed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani.

President Nechirvan Barzani said in a speech on the sidelines of hosting him at the “Miri” Forum for Middle East Affairs, that “the formation of the federal government in Baghdad is an important step in light of the current circumstances that Iraq is going through.”

He added that “the Kurdistan Region is seriously seeking the success of the current government formation headed by Al-Sudani,” stressing that the stability of the region is part of the stability of Iraq and vice versa, and if security is shaken in one of them, it will be undermined in the other because they complement each other.

Nechirvan Barzani also pointed out that the Iraqis do not feel that Iraq is for everyone, so we should take lessons from the mistakes we made in the past, and we in the region and Iraq have tried each other, and we have reached a point where we must help each other to solve Iraq’s problems, which are not simple problems. He stressed the need to resolve the differences and outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad in accordance with the permanent constitution of Iraq.

He also said that “since 2003 until now, we have been an important part in the formation of successive governments in Iraq, and we have sent the Peshmerga forces to maintain security and stability in Baghdad,” criticizing the continued consolidation of central rule in Iraq and not, as stipulated in the constitution, that the federal government is pluralistic.

President Barzani stressed that “the stability of Iraq is linked to the stability of the Kurdistan Region, and if we are able to resolve the differences between the two sides, Iraq will be in a completely good position.”

Regarding the current Iraqi government, the head of the region said, “The Sudanese deserve to be supported and given an opportunity to find solutions to the problems facing Iraq. If we adhere to the constitution and help each other, we will be able to solve the problems, and we should find a solution to Iraq’s problems and find a formula for living in this country together.”

He stressed that the Iraqis’ demands are legitimate for a better life, and there is an opportunity for that because the country enjoys great wealth.

The President touched on the democratic process in Iraq and said: It is not a gift to be given to any country. Rather, it is a culture and in my opinion in Iraq, if we compare since 2003 until now, we see that we have achieved many gains, but we have not reached that stage that meets the ambition.

He pointed out that after the elections, attempts were made to practice democracy by forming a tripartite coalition of election winners, but the issue of Iraq is complicated because there are many players in it, and this process did not go easily.

Regarding the Al-Sudani government, he said that the government formed in Baghdad, and if we compare the current Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, and the former Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the latter did not enjoy the full support of the political parties, but Al-Sudani is supported by the Shiite, Kurdish and Sunni parties, and this government is very different from the previous one. He added, “We are waiting for solutions for Iraq from Al-Sudani, and the responsibility entrusted to him is very great.”
