Shafaq News/ The Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani confirmed, on Saturday, that the “positive” atmosphere between Baghdad and Erbil contributed to passing the federal budget in the Council of Ministers and sending it to Parliament.
In an interview with Al-Monitor, Barzani said, “A positive atmosphere led to the Iraqi Council of Ministers submitting the federal budget to the Federal Parliament, which includes the allocation of 12.6% to the Kurdistan Region.”
“There has been a significant improvement in the budget negotiations. It’s not exactly what we wanted, but I think it’s a viable budget,” he added.
Iraq has been operating without a budget since 2021, and has been subject to the emergency food security law since last year.
Barzani stressed, “The whole country will benefit from the budget. We have already expressed our support for this budget. I hope Parliament will pass it as it is. It will also be the beginning of a more constructive relationship, not only between the KRG and Baghdad, but also between Baghdad and other provinces, and the start of an economic recovery.” new”.
Barzani pointed out that “the positive atmosphere in the budget talks can facilitate progress towards an elusive national oil law,” considering that “all of the problems of the past were politically motivated.”
He pointed out that “there were some drafts of the oil and gas law in the past, but it was not passed by parliament.”
And he considered that “for Barzani and the KRG, the key is that the national oil and gas law reflects the rights of the Kurdistan Region in the Iraqi constitution.”
