Legal - The Sunni forces cannot decide the presidency of the parliament while they are waiting for the parliamentary majorityLegal expert Tariq Harb confirmed, on Saturday, the inability to pass a vote on the Speaker of Parliament without obtaining a parliamentary majority, indicating that the Sunni forces cannot resolve the situation without the help of Shiites and Kurds.

Harb said in a press statement that “the first session of the House of Representatives obliges the old speaker of parliament to open the door for nomination and competition for the presidency of the House of Representatives, and he will continue to work as an interim president until the permanent president is chosen.”

He added that “the selection of the permanent president requires the vote of more than 165 deputies out of 329 members of the Council, which makes it impossible to resolve the position of the Sunni forces, and they have to resort to the help of Shiite and Kurdish forces.”

Harb explained, “Political consensus will be present in the selection of the two deputies to the parliament speaker, who are mostly Shiite and Kurdish forces, and they include the three in one basket.”
