Legal expert Mosaddegh Adel revealed today, Sunday, that the Presidency of the House of Representatives does not have the right to cancel or postpone the extraordinary session requested by Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to present his cabinet.
Adel said in a press statement that “the parliament does not have any authority to cancel the session or postpone it to a date other than the date specified by the prime minister-designate.”

He added: “Consequently, the session is binding on the Speaker and must be held on the understanding that the Constitution did not give the Speaker and the House of Representatives any authority to postpone this session, but it is obligated according to Article 58 of the Constitution to hold it at the appointed time.”

The first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hassan Karim Al-Kaabi, said that “the session of the parliament to give confidence to the government of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi will take place next Wednesday.”

It was scheduled to hold the extraordinary session of Parliament to give confidence to the cabinet of the Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, tomorrow, Monday.
