Iraq’s accession to the statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice

Shafaq News/ Minister of Justice Khaled Shwani signed Iraq’s accession document to the Statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice, according to the ministry said in a statement today, Thursday.
This came during a visit by the minister to Saudi Arabia, in which he met with Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
The statement stated that “during his visit to the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah, he signed the accession of the Republic of Iraq to the statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice, which is considered one of the judicial bodies affiliated with the organization.”
According to the statement, “the importance of Iraq’s ratification of the statute of the International Islamic Court of Justice was discussed in settling legal disputes amicably or through arbitration bodies affiliated with the court, in a way that enhances the achievement of justice and does not hinder efforts to achieve development.”
The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador Muhammad Al-Saleh Taqiyeh, Director General of Political Affairs at the Organization, Ambassador Hassan Ali Hassan, Director of Legal Affairs at the Organization, and the Permanent Representative of Iraq to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Muhammad Samir Al-Naqshbandi, Consul General and Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
