An Iraqi coalition confirmed, on Sunday, that parliament will vote on amending the election law next week, indicating that if one of the three amendments is not agreed upon, the three proposals will be put to a vote on one of them by members of the Council.
The coalition spokesman, Representative Hussein Arab, said in a statement, “The House of Representatives will hold a session next week to vote on amending the election law with the paragraph that concerns electoral districts.”
Arabs added, “In the event that the political blocs do not obtain agreement on one of the three proposals related to electoral districts, they will be referred to the general vote.”
He explained that “the three proposals put forward are to maintain the consideration of each district representing one deputy for every 100 thousand. It is approved in the current law, the second is to consider the governorate as one constituency, and the third opinion is more acceptable for the district to represent four winners, and this serves the issue of the women’s quota.”
