Iraq contracts with a Norwegian company to build two oil tankers{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Oil, represented by the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company, signed a contract, on Tuesday, with the Norwegian company (Batsurvice mandal) to build two oil tankers.
Oil Minister Ahsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail said in a press statement, “This contract comes within the framework of the ministry’s plans and interest in rebuilding the national fleet of oil tankers again, which have been damaged by futile wars over the past decades.”
Ismail stressed the importance of “strengthening the national fleet with modern tankers to transport oil and petroleum products to the world’s supplies, adding that” we have instructed the concerned authorities to give priority to the national carrier with the aim of increasing the financial resources from commercial transport operations, and seriously contributing to the advancement of this vital sector, and upgrading the level of performance To compete with their counterparts from foreign companies. ”
For his part, the General Director of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company, Ahmed Khazal, said, according to the statement, “Today we set the first building block on the road to strengthening the role of the national carrier of oil and other oil products, through contracting with a specialized international company to build two oil tankers with a load of (30,000 tons) for each tanker. Delivered after (18 months) from the date of signing the contract. ”
He added that “the company’s plans aim to contract to build giant oil tankers with a load of two million barrels, in addition to preparing and training workers on the latest scientific means and advanced technology in this field.”
For his part, a representative of the Norwegian company (Batsurvice mandal), Rashid Kettani, expressed his “happiness in contracting with the Ministry of Oil and the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company,” expressing his hope for “increasing the volume of cooperation with this company in a way that contributes to strengthening its fleet with modern oil tankers.”
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company (IOTC) is a national company, one of the formations of the Ministry of Oil, specializing in the maritime transport of crude oil and refined products. It was established in 1972.
